The Ripped Bodice: Welcome to Summer
Posted on 01 June 2016
Join us this Friday, June 3 from 5-8pm as we help celebrate summer with chocolate samples at The Ripped Bodice in Culver City (located at 3806 Main Street). We are delighted to be participating in “Welcome to Summer: Ladies Night Out at the Ripped Bodice,” hosted by the shop’s owners, Bea and Leah Koch. In addition to our chocolate tasting, there will also be free chair massages, lots of books to peruse, and plenty of good company.
Now, let me tell you about Bea and Leah Koch.
Bea and Leah are two sisters who have mastered the art of “Do What You Love.” In March of this year, they opened the doors of The Ripped Bodice, the only bookstore in America that exclusively stocks romance novels. The two women have been reading romance since they were young, and the shop offers them a chance to showcase their expertise and honor the creativity of romance authors. The shop is nestled in downtown Culver City, and its charming interior boasts an impressive and carefully curated selection of books. It is immediately evident that Bea and Leah have poured a lot of love into their endeavor. (I love this article about their venture!)
We met the Koch ladies on the recommendation of a mutual friend, and it was akin to meeting kindred spirits. The first clue? The day before Diana and I visited the store, I heard Bea as one of the contestants on “Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me,” the NPR quiz show. Seriously… what are the odds?! I listen to the show religiously and even sat front row at the live taping in Los Angeles last year. And it turns out that Bea and Leah are lifelong fans, having grown up in Chicago where the show is taped. When we did actually meet, we had such a fun time swapping stories of being small business owners and gushing over each others’ ventures. Like us, their duo consists of the “Dream Wildly” partner and the “Think Things Through” partner, who balance each other out. I repeat: kindred spirits.
So, join us this Friday and show your love and support for these two awesome women who are making their mark!
